WHERE IT ALL ST(ART)S

REBIRTH

I created these pieces in 2021-2022, these pieces were a sum of a project for my AP Art course, in my 11th grade of high school. Heavily inspired by the idea of metamorphosis, I constructed a series of paintings that use the idea of metamorphosis as a metaphor, one that encapsulates the place of a woman in the world, she is forced to cover up, not just physically, but her thoughts, dreams, aspirations, all to adhere to society, so this pressure covers her in a cocoon, where she tranforms into a butterfly and tastes freedom, however it doesn’t end here (my class needed more pieces so I had to improvise :) ). SO, it went on, and I decided to share the aftermath of the butterfly transformation, society shackled her and entraps her into a cage, then she emerges from her corpse and skeleton as a flower from the water that fell through the cracks of her body under her grave, to illustrate that just as the phoenix can rise from ashes, she can rise from society’s chains, free, not a butterfly, but as the energy that keeps on coming back up. Metamorphosis, rebirth, change in different forms.

CHANGE IN DIFFERENT FORMATS

MENTALLY NO(WHERE?)

SO, WHAT? WHAT IS WHERE?

CIRCA 2023-25. I created the pieces above with the theme of mental illness and distorted perceptions, essentially the same, categorized as different.

From the relationships between the states of death and life, the depiction of the female scientist-creator of Frankenstein, etc I use metaphors to illustrate pieces that resonate with people who have experienced slightly similar experiences (obviously, we don’t talk to bare skeletons or create large green creatures… BUT MANY OF US DO GO MANIC OR DETACHED ETC,) So, these pieces are a little tell of the real human experience, messy, mad, mental.
